Yeast Nutrient 10gm

Our Yeast Nutrient is specifically designed for cider, wine and mead brewing. We include it with all of our cider kits. Add it to the must and stir it in before adding the yeast. It is mainly diammonium phosphate which helps yeast grown in mediums with low protein (e.g. apple and grape juice and honey must) but also includes minerals and vitamins. With our cider, it will assist the cider yeast ferment from 1.038 to 1.010 in 4 days (3.70% alcohol).

We recommend putting the cooling on then to allow for some residual sweetness. However you could leave it a few more days and it will finish at about 1.007 (4.06% alcohol). You could also add some extra apple juice concentrate (or dextrose/glucose) to boost the alcohol content a little. It could also be added to any beer yeast to help speed up fermentation although in general breweries don't add diammonium phosphate as barley has lots of protein compared to fruit.

If you usually add for example 1kg of sugar with WW Beer LME cans and don't use DME (which has proteins), then this product might be a good addition to provide some nutrient for the yeast. It could also be used for helping the yeast in high alcohol beers e.g. >8% alcohol. For wine and higher alcohol products you will likely need several 10g packets, depending on the yeast and its needs. Wine makers also add such nutrient as this during the fermentation to help keep it going.
