Brick Road Old Dark Ale 1.5kg

This Classic Old Dark Ale kit, accompanied by Ale yeast, offers a delightful ruby-brown malty beer with a rich, toasty caramel flavour from the dark ale malts. This taste is perfectly balanced with a medium hop bitterness, creating a surprisingly satisfying brew.

To create a classic Old Dark Ale, add 1.5kg of Brick Road Light malt extract (or Amber or Dark for additional colour). For a lighter version, use 1kg of Brick Road Light Dry malt extract (or Amber or Dark for more colour, or 1kg of dextrose). Incorporate 500g of lactose for added sweetness without increasing the alcohol content.

Only the highest quality grains are chosen and malted. These grains are then expertly blended to match the specific beer style, combined with hop extracts to produce the hopped wort. The wort is carefully concentrated to 80 Brix and then freshly canned on-site to preserve its original, rich malt flavours.

Product Specifications:

  • Colour: Ruby-brown, 52 EBC
  • Bitterness: Low-medium, 22 IBU
  • Grist: Primarily Ale malt
  • Wort: Original Gravity (OG) 1.042; Final Gravity (FG) 1.008 (approx.)
  • Yeast: Ale yeast

Additional Fermentables Required:

  • For Classic Old Dark Ale: Add 1.5kg Brick Road Light malt extract (or Amber or Dark for extra colour) for an ABV of 5.2% in 19L, 4.8% in 21L, and 4.3% in 23L.
  • For a Lighter Version: Use 1kg Brick Road Light Dry malt extract (or Amber or Dark for extra colour, or 1kg dextrose) for an ABV of 4.8% in 19L, 4.3% in 21L, and 4.0% in 23L.

Dry Hop Addition Suggestions:

  • Add 500g of lactose for enhanced sweetness without increasing alcohol content.

Alternate Yeast Options:

  • US-05, Bry-97, WLP001 California Ale, 1056 American Ale, or other clean, highly attenuating American ale yeasts.
