Brick Road American Porter 1.5kg

This Classic American Porter kit, complete with American ale yeast, delivers a rich, malty experience, characterised by deep, satisfying toasty, chocolate, and toffee flavours originating from the roasted malts.

To brew an American Porter, add 1.5kg of Brick Road Dark malt extract and 1kg of Brick Road Dark Dry malt extract (or alternatively, 1kg of dextrose). Enhance the brew with up to 100g of American hops like Cascade, Citra, or Columbus, imparting resiny, earthy hop aromas.

By following Brick Road, you're on your way to brewing fresh beer that eclipses commercial varieties. This kit provides the essential elements for you to create great beer at home with simplicity and flexibility. You're also free to experiment and craft your own distinctive recipes, building them brick-by-brick. In their quest for excellence, Brick Road has sourced the finest maltster to produce this exceptional hopped wort.

Only the highest quality grains are chosen and malted. The malts are then blended to match the specific style of the beer, and combined with hop extracts to produce the hopped wort. This wort is carefully concentrated to 80 Brix and then freshly canned on-site to capture its original, delightful malt flavours.

Product Specifications:

  • Colour: Deep brown, 68 EBC
  • Bitterness: Medium, 27 IBU
  • Grist: Predominantly dark malts
  • Wort: Original Gravity (OG) 1.042; Final Gravity (FG) 1.008 (approx.)
  • Yeast: American ale yeast

Additional Fermentables Required:

  • For an American Porter: Add 1.5kg Brick Road Dark malt extract plus 1kg Brick Road Dark Dry malt extract (or 1kg dextrose) for an ABV of 7.5% in 19L, 6.8% in 21L, and 6.2% in 23L.
  • For a Lower Strength Porter: Use 1kg Brick Road Dark Dry malt extract (or 1kg dextrose) for an ABV of 4.8% in 19L, 4.3% in 21L, and 3.9% in 23L.

Dry Hop Addition Suggestions:

  • Finish your brew with up to 100g of American hops such as Cascade, Citra, or Columbus for those distinct resiny, earthy hop aromas.

Alternate Yeast Options:

  • US-05, Bry-97, WLP001 California Ale, 1056 American Ale, or other clean, highly attenuating American ale yeasts.
